Your TIE is crucial for your time in Madrid as a participant of any Language Assistance Program. Having a valid TIE will allow you to obtain necessary documents needed for your time in Madrid and Spain. If you currently possess an invalid TIE some of the necessary documents will not be available for you to obtain. Depending on Registros and government workers you may be able to proceed with some of these documents but be aware it is not always possible. If you are a first year LA participant and have never obtained a card, most programs will provide you with the necessary guides for obtaining your TIE. If they don't please refer to this guide as a way finding success. If you are a returning Language Assistant you should have already begun the TIE Renewal Process.
At this time you can check the status of your renewal by using this link and inputting your NIE number followed by the date that you submitted your documents and your birth year. The Renewal period has been taking longer than usual due to COVID, but please check your status weekly to start your huellas appointment as they are also in high demand. Once you have obtained a FAVORABLE status it is time for you to seek a HUELLAS Appointment. You can solicit a HUELLAS Appointment by selecting this link and inputting your data.
Huellas appointments are in high demand as of now and you must be patient and organized when it comes to obtaining the appointment. Appointments are to be released every hour on the hour and can be released randomly throughout the day. You are able to go to any of the EXTRANJERÍA Offices in the community of Madrid and you are not limited to AVENIDA DE POBLADOS. There are 3-4 other locations in the community and you should go with whatever option is available. Keep in mind that appointments are also necessary for you to pick up your TIE once it has been processed after 35 working days. (Days can be more or less depending on processing time) It is your responsibility for obtaining this document in Madrid.
As of this year there are WhatsApp groups that have been created to help alert individuals when HUELLAS appointments are released. Click here to join 2 specific ALERT GROUPS. They are to be used for only appointment alerts, you may be banned from the admin if you chose to start a conversation. Alert Group 1 and Alert Group 2.
Making your HUELLAS APPOINTMENT
You will select the following options on the website:
HUELLAS DocumentsUpon your Huellas (Fingerprint) Appointment you must be aware of all the necessary documents that are needed. Failure to provide these documents on the day of your appointment may result in rescheduling and to return another day. The most important thing is to remember is to make copies of all your original documents. Always keep 1-2 copies of your documents with you. To organize your time paper trail here in Spain I recommend purchasing a plastic folder to hold all your documents and write the appropriate year on the outside. This will help you collect important documents for the year and to place them in an orderly manner. This folder you can take with you to appointments such as Huellas, Empadronamiento, and more where you can have access to all your documents.
The following items that are needed for your Huellas appointment should consist of the original and the copy. If you need to sign any documents with your name and date, use a blue ink pen to emphasize that it is your original signature to write out 2020 on all documents.
As of March 2021 this is the updated post of information for the year. All information presented is based on my own personal experience and I am not held responsible for any final outcomes...well I guess for the success stories. Please comment if you have found any other differing information.
